Tones and I

Cloudy Day

When Elektra Records called from New York with a monumental challenge, we answered.

Amid the pandemic, and as Melbourne endured and entered its sixth lockdown, Mornington Peninsula native and Australian singer and songwriter Tones and I had no way to film the official music video to accompany the release of the third single “Cloudy Day” from her debut studio album “Welcome to the Madhouse”; so, our task was set.

Meet a strict 7-day turnaround deadline and produce the official animated music video for “Cloudy Day”.

Elektra said we must find the sun and spirit of the song by bringing the lyrics to life in a visually stunning and emotionally resonant way. The song tells a story of finding solace and light amidst the darkness of life and offers a message of resilience and perseverance in the face of adversity.

Naturally, we collaborated with award-winning VFX and post-production studio Heckler, who were responsible for the incredible animation production and enabled us to bring this heart-warming and introspective song to life. Because without the right people, there were no pixels; the rest was just storytelling.

Oh, and this totally rules. To make a great project even greater, “Cloudy Day” won ARIA Song of the Year and was reviewed by our favourite snarky, immature 21st-century lowbrow antiheroes Beavis and Butt-Head. Uh, huh huh huh huh huh.
